‘Pay-To-Release’ Lifebuoy ring

This sculptural object, “Pay-To-Release” Lifebuoy ring, explores the ideology and methods used by capitalist industries who monetise every aspect of society, reducing individuals to no more than passive consumers
This piece of work shows a lifebuoy ring within a locked cabinet that will only unlock when a release fee is paid. The release fee of £530 will automatically exclude some people from using it and force others to make certain considerations before paying the sum.
If you saw someone drowning, what would affect your decision when paying the release fee and should companies profit from this?
