Reimagining Communities workshop at Spike Island

On Saturday 20 July, I ran a collage workshop at Spike Island that explored using collage as means of collective action. The workshop drew upon themes of their current major survey exhibitionVisceral Canker’, of late British artist Donald Rodney and explored how other Black artists, such as Romare Bearden have used collage throughout history to challenge society and tell their stories.

The workshop asked attendees to imagine and create a shared vision of a future community by working together to create a collective piece of art.

Attendees shared a range of ideas and created pieces of art that explored issues such as the necessity for environmental protection and the importance of knowing your neighbours through developing community relationships.

More information about the workshop can be found here.
